Regency EPA wood stoves have two high temperature ceramic baffle plates held in near the top with a pin. Be sure that you always keep the baffles pushed to the back and held in with the pin. These baffles serve to provide a secondary combustion process, which burns the smoke, providing a more efficient heating experience that burns less fuel. It saves you on energy costs and you don’t have to put wood in the stove as often. In a fireplace, the fuel value from the sap and other fluids inherent in wood simply go up the chimney and turn into creosote.
