Statistics show us that approximately four thousand people within our community have some form of a disability. This leaves many of our community members at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing public recreation. This is something that you don’t notice until it actually affects you directly.

The goal of our project is to design and build a playground which will allow children and adults of all abilities to play and learn together. When we think of accessibility, we are to quick to think wheelchair. Our group feels that an accessible park should meet the needs of all forms of disabilities, including physical, visual, and special needs (cognitive). Our playground will be inclusive to all, with many challenges and learning opportunities for all abilities.

Ali’s Wonderland will include the following accessible components:

1. Universally Barrier Free playground and Splash-pad. Nothing is stopping any child from playing on Ali’s Playground.
2. Custom Themed design. So imagination for children is limitless.
3. Major Items- ( Wheel Chair Swing, Merry Go All, Free Notes Music Items, Roller Table and Slide ( sensory ), Nature incorporation.
4. Splash-pad Barrier Free and everyone loves water.
5. Family Bathroom
6. Revitalization of the neighborhood
7. Kids and families can access by bike and trails.
8. Splash-pads are the number one request to any parks department in the country. Due to immense popularity.
9. Parks are for everyone and shouldn’t be limited to anyone.

We hope our community and others embrace our project. This is something that our community truly needs. We hope that everyone is allowed to meet Ali by coming to her park and learn how, in her short 7 years of life, Ali accomplished more than most do in a lifetime. She has changed my life & many families’ lives in such an unbelievably positive way. I can’t think of a better way to honor our Brave Hero, Ali, & help our community benefit in countless ways.
