Evaporative condenser-air pre-cooling has the potential to reduce peak demand and energy consumption for air conditioning systems. The Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC) has been leading development of an ASHRAE Method of Test to objectively laboratory test these products. During this Webinar, WCEC will describe the Method of Test and present results for five evaporative pre-cooling products. Variable blower and compressor speed controls have the potential to optimize the part-load efficiency of RTUs. WCEC will also present laboratory test results describing efficiency, capacity, and power for an RTU operating at a range of compressor speeds, blower speeds, and outdoor air temperatures. The potential for combing condenser air pre-cooling and RTU optimization to achieve both large peak demand reductions and efficiency improvements will be discussed.
